For those with built-in kitchens that cannot accommodate a dishwasher between the cabinets, table top dishwashers are the ideal solution. Removing a cabinet and installing the necessary plumbing and electrical supply is an expensive exercise, but a table top dishwasher can be placed on a countertop to provide the same convenience and performance as full size machines.
Table top dishwashers take up less space in the kitchen so you keep the storage space you need in the cabinets, but they will take up counter space. They are quite portable, however, so they can be kept in a corner when not in use and moved to the sink when you need to use the machine. If you intend using the dishwasher for daily dishes, you may want to keep it close to the sink so you can use the plumbing without moving the machine too
far. If the dishwasher is only going to be used when guests add to the pile of dishes, you can keep it anywhere in the kitchen and just move it to the sink when you want to use it.
Most table top dishwashers hold 4 to 6 place settings – more then enough for a small to medium family. They have the same features as bigger models, with different wash cycles to suit the load, cutlery compartments and different areas for different dishes, just fewer of them. Most table-top dishwashers are about 55cm wide, although this can vary and you should measure the space you have before buying your dishwasher. If you are going to store the dishwasher under upper cabinets, check the height of the machine as well, as they are not all the same height.
Another feature to check is the tap or faucet attachment – depending on your taps, you may need an adaptor to connect the water supply hose to the tap. Check the length of the hose as well, as you may not want or be able to put the machine right next to the kitchen sink, in which case you will need as much length in the water supply hose and the drainage pipe as possible.

The Bosch Classixx table top dishwasher is available in black, mustard, and red, and other brands offer navy and black as well. The Bosch models come in at around £320 for a 6 place setting machine, while Zanussi have an electronic model available at £280. The affordability of table top dishwashers makes them a popular choice, as of course does their compact size and space-saving feature.
